Alumni-led Retreat: Towards a New Analysis - Spiritual Direction as Soul-Making

Faculty: Corey Gamberg

This course will explore the practice of spiritual direction in light of the of the analytic psychology of CG Jung and James Hillman. Where clinical psychology and psychotherapy have become overly fixated with the categories of diagnosis, spiritual direction has largely neglected the unconscious processes and the dimension of depth. Jung’s discovery of the collective unconscious unlocked the realm of the archetypes, fairy tales, and ancient myths. James Hillman furthered Jung’s work by “attending” to the images and moving away from interpretation. He called this process soul-making. Our time together will be a combination of Silence, depth psychology, and story. It is my hope you will come to this weekend with a longing to see the world, yourself, and the other anew.
