Research + Publications
The Alcyon Center is an experiment in exploring ways to bring the sacred into all forms of our cultural conversations.
Below is a small sampling of the published work arising out of the lived experience of Alcyon. Please write us with any questions. We are always interested to read where your own work is taking you!
Alcyon Study Guide for Times of Spiritual Crisis: Six Doorways into Contemplative Cultural Research and Repair
by Kathryn Booth
The Alcyon Study Guide— is our beginning attempt at cracking open new territory in the current landscape of despair, fixed patterns and awakening. The Guide started as an annotated list of the resources and authors that directed our thinking in the Spring of 2020. It evolved as we needed to get at the roots of things—and dig deeper into:
How did the near total erasure of the sacred and spirit from the public narrative come about?
What new paradigms are needed to begin making new maps?
What lies at the heart of healing?
What creates and what tramples transformative conversations?
ALCYON: Celebrating Ten Years of Contemplative Cultural Research (2018)

A Center that Can Hold…
The vision for the Center is rooted in a desire for bold and practical ways to meet the spiritual hunger of our times. Providing a peaceful setting and an experience of living a daily rhythm of work, prayer, study, and rest constitutes the main way of bringing this vision to life.
Bench Markings: The Alcyon Center Annual Report 2020-2021
As we write to tell you a little of Alcyon unfolding over the past year, we imagine each one of you—companions, donors, guests, friends—and the way you are present to us here at the cove. Goodness, who would we be without you? The annual report is for slow reading and in it you’ll taste of Silence, Beauty, Beginnings, Mapping, Evolving, Angels, and the Human Spirit. Winter 2020-21 gave us time to take stock of what had accumulated since we moved in, summer 2008. We sorted, organized, tossed and burned box after box of old archives. Embarking on a new round of listening and waiting—we decided to begin writing.
